Stupid Car Free Day

Jakarta Car Free Day?
How abour Jakarta Car Free Week? Month? Year? Decade?

That would help reduce the pollution a lot, wasted productive hours usually lost in traffic jams, and zillions of dollars 'contributed' to rich countries in the name of 'subsidiary'.

Banning people from driving through that few kilometres of Sudirman-Thamrin for only a mere 8 hours? That's a sensation. Much like Sutiyoso streaks buck naked along Sudirman-Thamrin, the only part of Jakarta that he cares a lot that he'd rather shift the traffic jam there to the rest of the city.
'Oh Sudirman-Thamrin is good then the rest of Jakarta must be good too'. That narrow-sighted general!

Isn't it better to let car owners to pay full price for fuel that they spend every day in their one-passenger-only fuel-consuming ozone-damaging cars? Isn't it better in many ways to let people comfortably ride in public transportation? Jakarta may eons behind the reality of having its own underground railway system, so why not starting to rejuvenate buses and electric trains?

With current condition of public trasportation, it's very difficult to entice people to move from airconditioned cars to motion-sickness-inducing tetanus-incubation-tank zig-zagging nasty old buses. When the subsidized fuel is allocated to public transportation, we could expect efficient bus using which in turn yield higher profit margin which can be used to maintain better bus system.

Finally, we could assure that subsidiary goes to people that really need it. Money is spent wisely and efficiently. In turn, it would help increase Indonesian children's IQ (due to lower lead pollution index), O2 abundance, and education and health budget. I just can't get that something this simple could not be attain by those with post-graduate education and those hubble-babble honorary doctor stuff.

This fuel crisis that always hits whenever we think that we couldn't get any lower is the inevitable proof that we chose a government who is way beyond stupid, or, to put it in a subtler context, unaware.

Instead of being full of anticipation of whatever may befall, the president and the cabinet and all suckers who think they have given something back to their constituents by committing to nonsense meetings in the parliament opt to do something superficial, such as arresting few oil ship crew onto whom they'd planned to load the burden of guilt.

I, from a long a time ago, understand that it's impossible for the government for not knowing the roots of anything rotten that happen in this country. Their choice to sugar-coat everything is all political. Each crime that they do against humanity is another landmine planted waiting to blow up. If only they grow wiser ...
