My first trip to Glodok ever
Last night I went to my cousin's house. I bought some chocolate-filled bread and ice cream for his kids which turned to be the victims of their sweet teeth. I think their mom has told them zillions time not to play with food, yet these hobbits sucked out all the chocolate fillings and left the plain bread on the floor.
I spent the night rewatching "One Hour Photo" starred by Robin Williams. I saw it for the very first time at BSM last July. Although the picture is quite good but I didn't have any goosebumps during the film. Perhaps it was the sound system. BSM's was brand new, so dramatic that I was trembling to hear the low frequencies. More over I got no thrill because the exciting part of the film was the way to the climax. When you already know what the ending is like, you'll miss the drama.
We talked about movies he and her wife had just seen in DVDs. One thing lead to another and in the occasion I said I'd like to buy DVDs of my favorite TV series "Friends", "The Simpsons", and "Sex and the City". My bro said that he'd go to Glodok to do some shoppings. I thought why not go along with him?
At ten in the morning, we left in his car (metallic green body with red interior, I call it "Watermelon") which could have belonged to a pimp before. Once, he said he wanted to put some fur in the dashboard. It's hard to be disguised when you ride a car as eye-catching as this one.
First stop was an audio shop which sells tape casettes and stuffs. While waiting for his order, my bro chirped out that he wanted to buy a digital camera to equip himself and return to his portrait painting job in jalan Sabang. The shopkeeper, his old acquintance, told him to go check out a new model currently on sale in a shop at Glodok Plaza. Off we went to the shop, and checked it for about half an hour. He didn't buy it but said he considered buying it later.
I almost forgot about the DVDs. I just kept following my bro, assuming that it might be time to go home. Actually he was leading me to a place once a myth to me.
So there I was, overwhelmed by stacks of Audio CDs, VCDs and DVDs displayed in shops and also by the massive crowd coming from all corner of Indonesia. I searched for something, but I was lost in the array of titles of movies I never thought they exist. I could see perhaps that's why other people keep shopping lists in their hands. I nearly passed out due to the smell of newly arriving pirated disks, torn plastic envelopes, volatile adhesive seals, and cheap covers. My vision blurred a little bit. Between my state of consciousness and unconsciousness, I vaguely saw somebody approaching me and offering me some kind of porno movies.
What might happen if I passed out while I was bargaining for them? I would surely make a good laugh target when people saw my pale face submerged in the huge pile of VCDs with titles like "Mahasiswa STT Telkom", "Aksi Krisdayanti", and "Sukma & B'Jah Uncensored".
I finally bought myself two DVDs containing the last 8 episodes of "Friends" final season. Haven't watched them till now, though.
