Nomat (Nonton Jumat): V for Vendetta

It's been a long while since the last time I went see a movie at Djakarta Theatre. So when my long lost friend, Idfi, asked me to come with him and his friends to see V for Vendetta, I agreed instantly. I was not anticipating for this movie, so I lowered my expectation.

V for Vendetta, a movie based on a comic of the same titled and brought to the silver screen by the makers of the Matrix trilogy. Not like the Matrix trilogy, I found the plot and the lines of V for Vendetta a lot more comprehensible. I could relate what's happening in current political arena with the ideals presented in this poetic composition.

The dark and red poster envoys dark aura of the movie, which portrays a well-planned vengeance of fawkes-masked V to British government. The story takes place around 2020, at the time where United States is in chaos, and Britain is under a fascist regime, led by high chancellor Adam Sutler. V, played cleverly by Hugo Weaving, not by accident, saved a young lady Eve Hammond, played by Natalie Portman, when she was attacked by fingermen at the curfew. After a while, she grew an admiration towards this masked hero while he started falling in love with her. He knew that he needed her and then in his unorthodox way, he put her in a trial to prove her stance.

Along the way, she found out the real reason of his revenge, which in a way connected with the story of her kidnapped parents, her brother who died of viral infection, and the high chancellor who, in the middle of chaotic Britain, stepped into the power. In the explosive (literally) climax, with Eve's help, V finally served his ultimate revenge and created a spectacular historic moment, which become a turn point of Britain.

If you could enjoy the Matrix or Sin City, you would enjoy this movie even more. This movie might inspire you to find your own initial to expose your inner rebel. Don't you like to see your initial drawn in city walls by your admirers?
